Excellence is a result of boring routine

No one likes to do the routine things. Anything new starts with excitement but soon the interest fades away. We move on to the next thing. This doesn’t yield much.

When you do the same thing over and over again it becomes boring. But if you keep doing that boring routine with focus and the eagerness to learn and improve, you become an expert in that thing. This expertise is the key to excellence. Many people start with a vision but they miss the consistency, they miss the routine. Also, the key thing is not to do the routine things just for the sake of doing it because it’s you job. There must a larger objective behind it. There must be an element of passion behind it.

A swimmer has to swim everyday to win an Olympic medal. A tennis player must practice the same shot for years to win a grand slam. An singer has to commit herself to routine practice and learning for years before she can make it big one day.

Excellence doesn’t happen by chance. It’s a result of doing the same boring routine day in and day out.
